minimally invasive surgical techniques
Written by:The orthopedic surgeon and member of Top Doctors, Dr.. Jaume Soler Subirats, coordinates a team of leading experts in Minimally Invasive Surgery Unit. He graduated with distinction at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Barcelona, was part of the team Dr. Gil Ojeda in the chair of Professor Piulach, Clinic Alliance and Civic Center Perecamps. 14 years is dedicated to minimally invasive technique (TMI).
In collaboration with Dr.. Ferran Lafuente Rodes, traumatologist and orthopedic surgeon, former chief of orthopedic surgery at Sacred Heart Clinic, are making the TMI in hip, knee, foot, hand and spine, which shortens patient recovery and minimizes postoperative pain .
Surgical techniques improve the quality of life of patients suffering from osteoarthritis in different joints. Breast implants in hip, knee and shoulder is a common practice for years.
Currently, these prostheses can be performed with new techniques, called "minimally invasive techniques" decreasing injury muscles and ligaments, allows early mobilization and reduce postoperative pain.
Degenerative lesion of the most frequent hand is the "rizarthrosis thumb" that affect the movement of "clip" prevents large extent, the daily work of the person concerned.
Currently, plastic trapezium restitute the movements and deformities eliminate this bone, eliminating pain in all cases and allowing full mobilization.
Foot deformities can be solved with percutaneous surgery, which is performed under local anesthesia and a punctate incisions. It is performed on an outpatient basis, so that shorten both surgical time and the subsequent recovery.
These techniques allow, with the use of special shoes, walk from day one. Pain is minimal and therefore the need to take painkillers is testimonial.
The percutaneous technique allows us to correct the hallux valgus (bunions), hammertoes, metatarsal overload and other deformities of fingers painful antiestéticasymuy. The correction of the heel spur and plantar fasciitis are also corrected with this technology.
For the treatment of disc herniation, multiple disciplines are combined according to each case: the use of ozone, Orthokine® (serum prepared with the patient's own blood that provides an anti-inflammatory effect, pain reduction and protective cartilage), DISCOGEL and radiofrequency down as minimally invasive therapy, alternative to laminectomy and partial removal of the disc, which allow the length of stay in hospital is between 4 and 6 hours.
Minimally invasive surgery is the future, but this, as it allows to solve increasingly pathologies, always reducing pain and shortening the postoperative patients.
