Central Nervous System

The central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord, and is protected by three layers: dura (outer membrane), arachnoid (intermediate), pia (inner membrane), generically called meninges. Meanwhile, the brain and spinal cord are protected by bone casings, which are the skull and spinal column, respectively. This is a complex system which is responsible for perceiving stimuli from the outside world, process the information and transmit impulses to muscles and nerves.
