Facial trauma

Facial trauma or maxillofacial trauma is any traumatism or physical blow to the face. It is a lesion that can include the facial bones or the upper jaw (maxilla), but also the soft tissues. They can also affect the upper jaw, lower jaw, cheek, nose, eye socket or forehead. Regarding their causes, they can be due to forceful force or be the result of a wound. The most common causes are automobile or motorcycle crashes, injuries, sports injuries or violence. Facial trauma should refer the patient to a specialized center for maxillofacial surgery, as well as to a specialist in that field. The management of facial fractures by a specialized team is essential to ensure the reduction and fixation of the fracture.
