Written by:Dr.barkladrarladrarladrar. Josefina Ramon de l' Instituta Catala explains the Ozone Therapy Ozone therapy in treatment of sports injuries.
¿What type of sports injuries can be treated by ozone therapy
?A wide range, from musculotendinous injuries like tendinopathy, tendinosis, enthesopathies, stretching, overloads, and ligamentous injuries such as strains. We can also treat joint injuries such as tennis player 's wrist, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, jumper's knee, ankle Runner... all very common injuries among athletes both amateur and elite sport.
¿Since Ozone is applied when treating injuries
?This is done by either intra-articular injections, peri-articular, intramuscular, peritendinous... depending on the lesion to be treated. Being a gas we can use finer gauge needles not causing pain when performing the puncture.
¿many sessions are required for reinstatement to the practice of sports
?It will depend on the injury but a minimum three sessions are usually applied. The most common is to do a session a week.
¿must continue some sort of care or rehabilitation
?Ozone therapy is thought to reduce the period of healing of sports injuries. The rehabilitation can help you get a better result by shortening the number of sessions required and achieving an earlier reinstatement to the competition level. Ozone therapy is not an aggressive technique and can avoid surgery in many cases.
