Facial Plastic Surgery
Facial plastic surgery is a surgical subspecialty that can be performed by maxillofacial surgeons, otolaryngologists, ophthalmologists or dermatologists trained in that area. Its objective is the correction and / or improvement of abnormalities in the face of congenital, acquired, tumor or involutionary origin, that require repair or replacement of the form and its function. Facial plastic surgery is divided, from the practical point of view, into two fields of action: reconstructive or restorative surgery and cosmetic or cosmetic surgery. Reconstructive / restorative surgery (including microsurgery) is focused on disguising the effects of an accident or trauma, congenital malformations, and tumors of the face. On the other hand, cosmetic or cosmetic surgery generally treats healthy patients and is performed with the purpose of modifying parts of the face that are not satisfactory for the patient, in order to improve their quality of life. However, there are cases with medical reasons, such as blepharoplasty or rhinoplasty.
