Digital dentistry

There have been many technological advances in the specialty of Dentistry. The main one is what is known as minimally invasive dentistry. Currently, any intervention that we are going to carry out in the mouth can be planned with the means of 3D diagnosis, with photographs and digital impressions.

The techniques of digital diagnosis by the image in restorative treatments allow us to see the restoration made before touching even the profile of the patient's mouth. And in the case of surgical treatments we will know the exact point in which we should make the incisions.

Now we can foresee very well how the patient is going to be. The technology of the digital smile design (Digital Smile Design) is based on a photographic examination of the patient. Photographs are taken of his face, of his way of smiling, of his way of speaking and, of course, of his teeth. We work on 3 levels: first, putting the smile line in the ideal situation with respect to what is the profile of the patient. In other words, make a harmonic smile with your face. In second place we give the morphology and the appropriate color to the teeth that it must have, so that it adapts to the smile. And, already in third place and based on the two previous points, we decided what kind of treatment we are going to do to put the teeth.

DSD - Digital Smile Design - is beginning to be the basis of all our treatments. Any patient who comes to us with problems of dental wear, bruxism, abrasion, who are not happy with their aesthetics, or others who have been rehabilitated many times but who do not achieve an optimal result, the first thing we do is incardinar a result aesthetic to, from there, be able to achieve a good functional result. The objective or the purpose of the treatment is always the same: to give health to that which is sick, to give function to that which does not work and to give aesthetics to that which does not have it .

Advances have reached all fields. From the surgical point of view, we have Piezo surgery or Piezoelectric Surgery, a technique of ultrasound surgery that involves making a selective cut of the bone, respecting the soft tissues. This innovative method has significantly improved the insertion of implants and the extraction of wisdom teeth.

On the other hand, the application of laser has allowed us to work directly with a much smaller focus on those points that are injured, both at the level of periodontal disease and at the level of caries. Since it is a light system, we do not have macrovibrations or the need to perform invasive techniques.

There has also been a very important innovation regarding the materials for the restoration in the mouth. The lithium disilicate ceramics are totally biocompatible ceramics and allow us to restore teeth working with material thicknesses of only 0.3 millimeters. The aesthetic result that is achieved is sensational. And the innovative nanocomposites, substances that, on a plastic basis, have ceramic particles, usually silica, are so extremely small that an effect of absolute mimicry with the tooth and a much higher resistance to fracture is achieved.. That is to say, the tissue of the tooth is perfectly replaced.

Facing the patient, these new technologies are undoubtedly beneficial because any intervention that is complex is going to be done more easily. Above all it allows us to carry out treatments that were previously unthinkable, and that now, however, we can perform them. To us, the specialists, also allows us a greater tranquility at the time of doing them since we reach limits to which before we could not arrive.
