Tumors or cancers that together are known as tumors or cancers of the head and neck usually begin on squamous cells that cover the mucous and moist surfaces of the inside of the head and neck, such as the mouth, throat, or nose. These cancers are often referred to as squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck. Sometimes they also start in the salivary glands, but they are less common. These tumors are categorized according to the area of the head or neck in which they begin, and comprises the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity and salivary glands.
