Sjogren's Syndrome
Sjögren's syndrome is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease that causes the destruction of the glands that produce tears and saliva. Therefore, often causes oral and ocular dryness. Causes dry eye itching or eye stinging, sand in the eyes and eye pain; however, oral dryness is mainly manifested by thirst, difficulty chewing, burning on the tongue and increased incidence of dental caries. It is possible the presence of other symptoms not related eye condition like joint pain, fatigue, fever or impaired lung, kidney or nervous system. There are two types of Sjögren's syndrome: primary Sjögren's syndrome and secondary Sjögren's syndrome. The primary manifested only dry eyes and mouth, and the secondary arises in patients who also suffer from rheumatic diseases. The treatment for this disease tries to relieve symptoms, with measures to keep the eye moist and avoid dry mouth. Drug administration depends on the occurrence of other symptoms.
