Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy involves an ocular disorder caused by diabetes, which is caused by damage to blood vessels of the retina. This defect often causes leakage of fluid or blood in the eye, and if the disease progresses important visual disturbances such as blurred vision proliferation occur. The best way to prevent this disorder is to control diabetes (using insulin or other medications), a periodic eye exam (every one to two years), and exercising and maintaining a healthy diet to prevent the occurrence of the diabetes. When the disorder is in an advanced stage it should be treated by applying argon laser of existing lesions in order to prevent loss of vision.
