Stomach flu
Gastroenteritis is a disease characterized by inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, which comprises the stomach and small intestine. The cause is found in a norovirus infection. It spreads through contaminated food or water, or contact with another infected person. The main symptoms are diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, fever, chills and cramps. The most common problem with gastroenteritis is dehydration, which occurs when not enough fluid is ingested to get replace those lost with vomiting and diarrhea. Most people recover without specific treatment, although it is advisable to eat during illness a soft, bland diet, plus serum to prevent dehydration.
