What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR is an integrative approach that combines elements of dynamic therapies can be as traditional psychoanalysis, elements of cognitive-behavioral therapies, all part of psychoeducation, behavioral techniques, cognitive techniques such as cognitive restructuring and many other. Combines elements also the fullness mind, of being conscious awareness of how it feels, to realize how we process situations. And with all this works not only at the level of ideas and behaviors level, also works at the level of feelings, emotions, level of structural ideas of the person. That's the EMDR.
Moreover EMDR also works at the level of present, past and future. We started stabilizing the person with the symptoms that usually brings so call the query, call the psychologist. And once that part is done, either by depression, anxiety, obsessive thoughts, difficulty to bring the person to see where we come from, why these symptoms occur. And that has more to do with the past, with what the person has learned throughout his life with the life experiences you have had and how it may have affected. And finally ended up working the future, ie, working these potential difficulties having the particular person face to face at work level, on a personal level, at the level of partner, in their daily lives. It takes into account the present, past and future.
How many sessions you need therapy?
We can not talk about number of sessions because we are working with people and each person is different, what I can tell you is that I know therapies, is the fastest.
What patients is directed?
At first it was aimed at patients who had suffered post-traumatic stress situation and today, the experience and the results tell us that can be used in most conditions.
What is the difference between traditional therapies EMDR?
EMDR integrates important aspects of other approaches which works at the level of ideas, thoughts, emotions, feelings ... and of course at the level of behavior. This is the big difference with other therapeutic approaches, which came with everything that package to work a situation, an emotion, an idea and I am working level of the two hemispheres, the hemisphere rational and more emotional hemisphere.
Not only that, but I will also regulate gut level. How many times say what happens to me is anxiety but I breathe, I'll blow it really is anxiety and I will not spend anything, but I do not, anxiety is still here. I, with EMDR get regular gut level so you do not have to convince me that what happens to me is anxiety, I get that anxiety is not. That's the big difference with other approaches.
Are the results are definitive EMDR therapy?
With EMDR what we get is that the person learns to regulate emotions from emotions, not from head. We got to change the vision he has of herself, beliefs has of herself and, ultimately, that works much healthier as it is doing now, that works best.
If you mean for example anxiety, if anxiety disappears, then no, the anxiety does not go away because it is part of the rainbow of emotions of all people. If we see it as anxiety no longer blocks me and I am able to face different situations that generate upset me, then I'd say yes are final.
