What is the technique Earfold?
The Earfold is a new technique that we have today to correct that so common deformity is in the ears, protruding ears, and with an external device will allow us to enter a tab that is going to change the fold the ear cartilage to allow placing the ear in the position we want.
How is the implant?
The implant will place similar to one of these implants they are actually systems to achieve a very important thing, which is the simulation of the procedure before the intervention. Placing one of these devices in the patient's ear will we know if the Earfold can be used in that patient and the patient will be able to see how far we will correct the deformity of the ear. This stretching device, so to speak, is next placed on the introduction of Earfold system, as we see here. This system is introduced below the skin and completely attached to the cartilage, once we release the pestañita be bent, will adopt a similar position you get with the simulator and so will be the folded ear , or ear cartilage folding in the place where we want.
What difference otoplasty?
Until now the only option we had to correct protruding ears was the use of the surgical technique known as otoplasty. As a surgical technique, logically we needed a surgery and needed a well with a local anesthetic procedure or sedation, and even in more sensitive patients under general anesthesia. Currently with Earfold whenever you can place in certain patients, we will have an alternative to this Otoplastia less invasive, because in principle we will be able to place in consultation, in a treatment room that we special in consultation, which we will not have to go to hospital. We will be able to do, or yes with local anesthesia, which in otoplasty was not possible and will be a quick process because ultimately we will take approximately 20 minutes, while performing a Otoplastia traditional at hour and a half each other that the procedure was delayed.
¿ It involves some risk in the short or long term?
The main advantage of this procedure regarding otoplasty, as I said before, is that it can be done in consultation and only need local anesthesia, which the complications of this procedure will be minimal. On the one hand local anesthesia will not produce major problem the patient, unless you have any allergies to any of the anesthetic and on the other hand will need a minimal incision to insert the device. This minimal incision then will close later with one or two spots that no major problem. The device is placed just beneath perichondrium, and below the skin, which subsequently, this plate is made of an alloy of nickel and titanium, the patient will be seamlessly integrated, you will not notice anything or he will give no problem.
