What is a Root Canal ?

Endodontics is applied in fractured teeth with deep cavities in his or injured pulp tissue. A discoloration in the tooth and pain to hot or cold stimuli, are the symptoms that may indicate the need for a root canal in the tooth damaged. After completion of treatment, with proper care, the restored tooth will last a lifetime.

Endodontics is the treatment of root canals and involves the removal of the damaged or infected pulp. The dental pulp is a connective tissue composed of blood vessels, lymph vessels and nerves that nourish the tooth, which occupies part of the crown and root of the tooth or root. The goal of any endodontic treatment is the total or partial removal of the damaged pulp thus avoiding the loss or tooth extraction.

A deep decay or an injury to the tooth surface can cause serious damage and infection in the nerves and vessels of the pulp. Endodontics is to clean the pulp chamber as well as the infected canals and place after obturation material to seal these spaces that were previously cleaned and disinfected. The procedure for performing endodontics can last several sessions.Once completed root canal treatment the tooth which had been destroyed by decay or otherwise restored.

In cases where the tooth has been badly damaged, and therefore has little tooth structure, pole or support pins and a crown that entirely cover the tooth are used. This technique aims to achieve strengthened the piece and avoid fractures. After a suitable final restoration, where a tooth has been practiced endodontics can last a lifetime, always that good oral hygiene habits ( brushing suits, spend the flossing and routine cleanings ). In addition, the patient should go to clinics reviews and radiographic control and thus avoid future problems.
