What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical technique aimed at the modification of the nasal pyramid. It is a chain of surgical processes whose objective will be the modification or improvement of both the bones and hard structures as the nasal septum, quadrilateral cartilage or cartilage of the tip. With this modification, a change in the comfort of the nasal pyramid is obtained.

What medical and technological advances exist for rhinoplasty?

At the moment, we have two important technological advances. First, we have a specific model of the patient in 3D, obtained from radiological images, which allows us to plan surgery and know the millimeters of tissue that we have to remove or mobilize. Secondly, now plastic surgeons can apply endoscopic surgery ( endoscopic elements that previously entered the surgical world in general, such as traumatology, general surgery, neurosurgery, etc.) because we have microscopic tools with maximization of vision by screens and cameras that we can introduce into tissues. This allows us to perform a minimally invasive surgery and looking for maximum perfection, which we achieved thanks to the size of the instruments we use.

What type of anesthesia will be used in the surgery?

In rhinoplasty we use a neuroleptoanalgesis , a type of anesthesia with which the patient is asleep, but for the surgeon is still awake. It can even be done with sedation (that same product at less dose with the patient conscious) or with local anesthesia and the patient fully awake. We will advise a local or deeper anesthesia depending on the anatomy that we have to modify.

What advantages can we find regarding normal rhinoplasty?

The application of current technology has radically changed the surgical process and the results. We have greater reliability, greater security and greater perfection. This is because we are using in the surgical process itself, in addition to a greater surgical and sophisticated preparation that will allow us to know in advance how are the internal structures, endoscopic materials, much smaller, that magnify the image thanks to the new viewers that they allow us a greater precision. All this makes it have nothing to do with the rhinoplasty practiced 10 years ago.

What is the recovery time after rhinoplasty?

Currently, thanks to technological advances, the recovery time of a rhinoplasty has changed. If before we talked about a month, now from the fourth or fifth day the patient can be recovered , when the surgery is finished and we can remove the splint. If there are any remaining bruises persist, at most, until the tenth or twelfth day, but from the surgical point of view at 48 hours the patient is already making normal life with a splint. Regarding aesthetics, the patient will live a normal life after the first or second week of surgery.
