What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic appliance consisting of transparent and removable covers that are worn for 14 days. These sleeves are each slightly different from the previous one, so that this small difference is one which causes the teeth to progressively move towards the desired end position. They take 22 hours a day and are removed exclusively for eating, brushing their teeth and flossing.
What advantages does it offer compared to other treatments?
Invisalign offers multiple advantages over other conventional orthodontic treatments. The first and most obvious is, of course, discretion. It is a transparent device. It is very comfortable, not only because we can eat everything - to be removable we can eat hard or sticky things - but also because we are not going to have problems with sores, scrapes, emergency appointments for braces deprived or detached. You can also practice all kinds of contact sports without fear of injury, you can play musical instruments. And, what we like most professionals is, of course, hygiene. The patient can wash his teeth and floss without any barrier. In short, Invisalign does not alter your lifestyle.
What is the whole treatment?
Treatment with Invisalign will begin with a complete examination by the orthodontist. Then the doctor will do a treatment plan that will be sent along with a digital scan of the patient's models. What we see here on the computer would be the ClinCheck program with our patient's mouth. Here we can see a preview of all the treatment, from the beginning to the end, which have been performed by the technicians following the doctor's exact prescription. We can see in this film how the teeth are progressively moving along the treatment, ending with the final position. Once the treatment is shown to the patient, we have discussed the options, pros and cons of different versions, Invisalign will manufacture each of these 30 transparent cases and will send them in a box. We give the patient bags three by three, four by four, with a calendar and they will change it at home. Control reviews will be once a month, a month and a half or even two months. Once the treatment is completed we move on to the maintenance phase, with some sleep maintainers.
Does it work with all patients?
In which cases is Invisalign most indicated? In open bites for example. Works very well open bites, closing of spaces between teeth, moderate crowding, light, severe. One of the reasons that made me embrace this technique was the ability to move molars back in an effective way. And we are also getting very good results in adolescents in which we feared in principle that they were responsible in the use of these devices and it seems that the threat that if we do not put braces is doing that we are getting very good results with Invisalign Teen. In our consultation, today Invisalign has already become the first treatment option leaving the brackets as a second alternative. They work phenomenally but it is the patients themselves who do not want to wear braces and do want to wear Invisalign.
