Egg donation, what does the process consist of? Do you have risks?

Egg donation is a simple process that requires subcutaneous administration of hormones for approximately 7-8 days. During this process, ultrasound controls are performed to objectify the growth of the follicles and, once these follicles are of adequate size, the ovules must be removed.. This is done in an operating room for maximum care and is done under sedation with Propofol. Sedation consists in drowsing the patient for 5-10 minutes, which allows us, first, not to have any pain and, second, that there are no unexpected movements that can complicate the process. Once the extraction of the ovules is done, the patient goes to a box for recovery.. It usually takes around 20-30 minutes and, from here, we already let the donor in-corporate, so that she goes to eat something, then returns to the center, we objectify that it is okay and we give the ambulatory discharge.

What are the requirements to be an egg donor?

According to Spanish legislation, egg donors must be between 18 and 35 years old. In Embriogyn, preferably, below 32 years. This same Spanish legislation requires psychological studies to donors, genetic studies and studies of infectious diseases.. From our point of view, we also assessed the body mass index, to avoid surgical risks for the donor, and an ultrasound was performed during the first days of the cycle to assess the count of antral follicles, the ovarian reserve. Not all girls can do the donation process because not all of them have an adequate number of ovules to undergo the process.We are having demand for ovules of different ethnicities. Of oriental origin, of Nordic race, of black race ... that is, it is open to all kinds of ethnic groups without distinction. 

What women receive the donated eggs?

Although in the past most of the cases were women over 40 years old, we are currently encountering many desperate women with the desire to be a mother, to have a baby and who, for different reasons, do not get it; either because they have undergone chemotherapy or radiotherapy, women who have genetic diseases or who have been subjected to different therapeutic alternatives, to different reproductive techniques with their own ovules and have not achieved it. All of them see here a source of light, a possibility that can solve their problem. And this is always done under the strictest anonymity, Spanish legislation requires that this process be anonymous.
