Cartilage tranplantation

Cartilage transplantation is used to replace damaged cartilage areas as a result of certain injuries. This procedure is often used for cartilage damage in the upper ankle and knee area. By arthroscopy and the damaged cartilage material to be used for an autologous cartilage (a patient's own cartilage) is removed smoothed area. This material must be grown and after three to four weeks, the cultured cells are implanted with sporte material, under a second arthroscopy, to grow covering the defect.
