El ICR es un centro integral de Oftalmología de prestigio nacional e internacional que cubre todas sus especialidades y realiza desde revisiones de salud ocular hasta las intervenciones quirúrgicas más complejas. El Instituto, del que actualmente forman parte más de 90 oftalmólogos, utiliza tecnología de última generación en pruebas diagnósticas y láseres, y dispone de un servicio de urgencias 24 horas.
Además, es uno de los pocos centros acreditados por el European Vision Institute (EVI) para realizar estudios de investigación clínica internacional. En su línea de docencia se han consolidado los programas de másters oftalmológicos médico-quirúrgicos, la formación de médicos residentes y la docencia de doctores en la facultad de Medicina de la UIC.
