Botulinum Toxin against hyperhidrosis
Written by:The good weather is here, the temperature rise and, consequently, the sweat. The body regulates its own internal temperature through sweating and for many it is not a problem. However, in some people the body produces much more perspiration than it needs to stay cool. This condition is known as hyperhidrosis. Although the exact cause of hyperhidrosis is unknown, this treatment provides a safe and effective solution to a problem that causes discomfort and, in many cases, embarrassment.
The treatment lasts between 10 and 20 minutes and is done with superficial infiltrations of botulinum toxin (botox) through a very thin needle, so the discomfort that is generated is minimal. Botulinum toxin acts as an inhibitor, blocking the chemical signals transmitted by the nerves that control sweating. In this way, the sweating is interrupted because the sweat glands can not receive the signals sent by the nerves.
Treatments with botulinum toxin for hyperhidrosis can be performed in the doctor's office and the patient can resume their daily activities immediately after treatment, although intense exercise should be avoided for a few hours. Several days after the application of the injections you will already experience a drastic reduction in underarm sweating.
The results are not permanent, therefore, it is necessary to repeat the treatment every few months to maintain the effects. Many patients choose to perform this treatment once a year in the spring and summer, but there are also patients who have the problem throughout the year so they resort to treatment every six months.
