Uterine myoma, a benign process
Written by:¿'s a fibroid
?A fibroid is the proliferation and increased the muscle fibers of the uterus. It is manifested by the appearance of a nodule in the different locations of the uterus and that is what is commonly called fibroids, or uterine leiomyoma. It is a benign process in exceptional circumstances and which affects a huge percentage of women from adolescence until menopause.
¿Why some women develop it ?¿That depends
?I can not answer exactly because we do not know that to develop a fibroid depends a woman and other women do not develop. What we do know is that fibroids are benign tumors, as I said before, they are a function of the hormonal status of women. Manifest from the time of puberty until menopause, and menopause when the vast majority of cases these fibroids decrease in size, may even disappear.
¿That cause problems and symptoms
?The symptomatology of fibroids is varied. Depends primarily on three factors: the number of fibroids, the size of these fibroids and location within the uterus. This last aspect is crucial. Generally the most common symptoms in women with fibroid uteri are menstrual disorders, bleeding out of the cycle, very heavy menstrual bleeding and, on the other hand, symptoms of abdominal pain level in the area of the lower abdomen and also tuning by compression of neighboring organs essentially bladder. That is the most frequent symptomatology of fibroid uteri.
¿, consisting in its treatment
?In the treatment of uterine fibroids, the only really effective treatment is surgery. But this does not mean that every fibroid, any patient who has a fibroid has to be operated. That will depend mainly on two factors. The first patient symptomatology that this. And the second is that the fibroid has a tendency to grow over time or stabilize. Fibroids that produce little tuning and tuning that can be reversed with proper medical treatment need not be subjected to surgical intervention. In recent years this part another treatment option in symptomatic fibroids is interventional radiology, which is called embolization of fibroid uteri. It is a technique increasingly used by interventional radiologists and having acceptable results.
