Commonly known as tired eyesight , presbyopia is a pathology that affects a large part of the population. Presbyopia is the progressive loss of accommodation and affects all individuals regardless of any basic refractive error as of 40-50 years. Until relatively recently, presbyopia was corrected with the help of glasses, glasses and surgery.

To these already known techniques, the use of multifocal intraocular lenses and in particular of trifocal lenses , which have proven to be very effective for the correction of tired or presbyopia , has recently been added.. As a result of the excellent results obtained, experts are increasingly in favor of applying the lens extraction procedure with intraocular lens implant as the most efficient and definitive treatment for the correction of presbyopia.

Although there are still few surgeons who use them, trifocal lenses are becoming widespread as a common resource to treat presbyopia because they allow three focal lengths to be corrected with the same lens: far, intermediate and near vision .

The novelty of the trifocal lens is that it corrects the intermediate vision at the same time that continues to offer the best performance in the far and near view. In addition, thanks to its optical characteristics this type of lens offers a good quality of vision in any light condition and minimizes the appearance of vision of nocturnal haloes.

This technique is indicated for a large range of patients, both hyperopic over 45 years and myopic over 50 years. This can benefit all people diagnosed with presbyopia or tired eyes who wish to stop using glasses or contact lenses. Most patients who undergo trifocal lens implantation recover a full range of vision. The intervention corrects refractive defects in a stable way over time and also, logically, prevents the appearance of cataracts since we eliminate the lens.
