In vitro fertilization and intracytoplasmic sperm injection

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF ) is one of the treatments offered better results in Assisted Reproduction and consists of insemination of the eggs in the laboratory and the cultivation of embryos until their transfer to uterus.

It is indicated in cases in which there is a low semen quality and various pathologies of women as tubal obstruction, the presence of endometriosis, ovulation defects…

For the eggs, the woman has ovarian stimulation treatment monitored by ultrasound and hormonal determinations and when this follicles are aspirated under sedation at all times controlled by the anesthetist CREATE . The aspiration is done in our operating room and duration is approximately 15-20 minutes after which the patient remains in the room a couple of hours under the care of our nurses.

The male collects the semen sample is prepared in the embryology laboratory with oocytes that are in culture plates inside the incubators are inseminated.

When the conditions of the semen sample does not allow the realization of a conventional insemination, one sperm injection (ICSI ), which consists of the selection of each sperm individually with the aid of a microscope is performed micromanipulator, is injected into each mature oocyte.

After several days of culture during which embriologas remain in contact with patients to keep them informed of the evolution of the embryos, one or two are selected for transfer to the uterus. Our laboratory has special incubators that unlike conventional, working with low concentrations of oxygen getting to reproduce the conditions of the female genital tract, which favors the development of embryos to more advanced stages. Similarly, the embryos are kept frozen in liquid nitrogen benches last generation to have a monitoring of all its parameters for 24 hours, ensuring perfect conditions for the entire time they are frozen.

As with any treatment for Assisted Reproduction, patients are assessed individually, and after explaining the process, informed consents are signed and relevant serologies performed as indicated by the Law on Assisted Reproduction Techniques 14/2006.
